Your data is your data. We collect the minimum needed to run this site, take your payment and give you the thing you paid for. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Our own analytics are first-party and cookie-less. The only advertising code on this site is the Meta Pixel, used to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram, and it is described in full below.

Who we are

Daniel Marsh is an author-led brand about the quiet collapse of male friendship in midlife, published and operated by QANT Pty Ltd (ACN 088 738 943), registered in Australia. This policy covers danielmarsh.me and members.danielmarsh.me.

Daniel Marsh is a written persona and the images of him are generated rather than photographs of a real man. We say so plainly in our Terms of Service, along with the rest of our position on artificial intelligence.

Nothing here is medical, psychological or therapeutic advice. For a privacy enquiry, including access, correction or deletion, email privacy@danielmarsh.me.

What we collect on this website

On danielmarsh.me specifically, very little.

  • Contact messages. If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email and message you send, so we can reply.
  • Aggregate analytics. We use a first-party, cookie-less signal to see which pages get read. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and is never used to identify you as an individual. We look at it in aggregate or not at all. If you arrive from a link we tagged (for example, one of our ads), it also records which campaign and which ad sent you, in aggregate.
  • Advertising measurement (Meta Pixel). When we advertise on Facebook or Instagram, this site uses the Meta Pixel. It sets a Meta cookie in your browser and sends Meta Platforms information about your visit: the pages you view, the products you look at, when you start a checkout, your browser and device details, and your IP address. Meta may link this to a Facebook or Instagram account you hold. See Advertising and the Meta Pixel below.
  • Form protection. The contact form and the purchase signup form are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission came from a person rather than a script. It is not used to profile you or track you across sites.

Buying something

Purchases happen on this site, at danielmarsh.me/checkout, through the signup form on the product page. Payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us; we never see them and we never store them.

What we hold after a purchase is your account email and a record of what you bought, because we need both to give you access to it and to answer a billing question. Billing, refunds and subscription questions go to accounts@danielmarsh.me.

Once you have bought something, you use it at members.danielmarsh.me. That is also where you buy a second product if you are already a member.

What the member portal holds

Two of the products are AI guides, and both of them hold things you have written. This is the part worth reading properly.

  • Reach keeps a roster: the people you have been meaning to call, and whatever notes you put beside their names. That list is yours. You can edit it, delete any of it, and export the lot at any time.
  • Third Place keeps a memory of what you have written to it, so the guide is not starting from nothing every time you come back. Same rules. Yours, exportable, deletable.
  • Neither one stores a clinical or diagnostic label about you, not even one you have applied to yourself, and neither keeps a score, a rating or an inferred assessment of any kind. There are no streaks and no count of the days since you last sent anything.
  • The people on your roster did not agree to any of this, so we hold nothing about them beyond the words you wrote yourself.
  • Tell the guide to drop something and it drops it.

Nothing in either product crosses to another member, is used to train anybody's model, or turns up in a different product.

How we use it

Contact details are used to reply to you. Purchase details are used to give you what you bought and to answer questions about it. Analytics are used in aggregate to make the site better. Meta Pixel data is used to measure whether our ads work, to show our ads to people likely to be interested (including people who have visited this site), and to avoid showing them to people who have already bought. That is the whole list. We do not use your information for anything beyond running this site, delivering what you asked for and the advertising measurement described here.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Data is shared only with the infrastructure needed to operate: QANT, the platform that publishes this site; Stripe, for payment; the model providers that generate the AI guides' responses, which receive what you send the guide so they can answer it and are never given your information to train their models; and Meta Platforms, for advertising measurement as described below. Otherwise, only where Australian law requires it.

Advertising and the Meta Pixel

The Meta Pixel is a piece of code from Meta Platforms, Inc. and Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (Facebook and Instagram). Information it collects is sent to and stored by Meta, including outside Australia (principally in the United States), and Meta handles it under its own privacy policy. We receive only aggregated reports from Meta, not information that identifies you.

You can limit or stop this:

  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this site does not load the Meta Pixel at all.
  • Your Meta settings. Manage how Meta uses activity from other websites under Ad preferences and Your activity off Meta technologies.
  • Your browser. Block or clear third-party cookies, or use a content blocker.

Security and storage

The technical side - where your data sits, how it is secured, and how long it is kept - is handled by QANT, the platform that publishes this site. If you want that detail, QANT's full privacy and security policy is at qant.au/privacy. It covers the infrastructure behind this site for anyone who cares to look.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 you can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you. Email privacy@danielmarsh.me and we will action it. You do not need a reason and you will not get an argument.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site grows. Material changes show up in the "last updated" date at the top.
